Humphrey Bogart Jewelry Collection Ruby and Diamond Ring |
Hailed by many as the greatest male movie star of all time, Bogart was fortunate to be born into a wealthy and prominent New York family. Though he lived a charmed life as a child, lack of aptitude in education and disinterest in sports made him an outcast with his peers. Young, restless and unsure of what to make of his life,
Bogart enlisted in the United States Navy to fight in World War I. Bogart was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1919 and once again faced with a life purpose. A year later he managed to land a job as a company manager for the touring production of “The Ruined Lady.” A bit part in 1921 solidified his desire to pursue a life on stage and Bogart resolved to become an
actor. It was his leading role as Rick Blaine in the 1942 war romance “Casablanca” that launched his career. “Casablanca” won three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Director) and is now ranked as one of the greatest films of all time. His most notable performance came in the 1951 film, “African Queen” for which he won his first and
only Academy Award for Best Actor. In 1956, while still in the prime of his career, Bogart was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He passed away on January 14, 1957 at the age of 57 years old. |
