Vivien Leigh Jewelry Collection

Born in India in 1913, Vivien Leigh was educated in English covenant schools from the age of six to fifteen.  She showed great promise and a strong aptitude for the performing arts.  She once told schoolmate Maureen O’Sullivan, that she “was going to be famous.”  In 1937 she met Laurence Olivier, starring in “Fire Over England” together, and became determined to seduce him.  Though they were both married… by the end of the year they were steamy lovers.  In 1938, moving to Hollywood to be with Olivier, she won the role of Scarlet O’Hara in “Gone With the Wind” and won a Best Actress Oscar for her dynamic performance as the American southern belle.  Marrying Olivier in 1940, she appeared alongside her new husband in such great films as “Romeo and Juliet”, “21 Days” (1940) and “The Hamilton Woman” (1940).  While rehearsing for the London production of “Caesar and Cleo”, a pregnant Leigh fell and miscarried.  This fall was the beginning of her mental and physical demise.  In January 1953, she started filming “Elephant Walk” but suffered a breakdown and had to be replaced by Elizabeth Taylor. Her ongoing affairs with several other leading men, and another miscarriage caused Leigh to spiral into a deep depression from which she never recovered.  In 1966, her health declined markedly, and she died of tuberculosis in July 1967.

From the ages of six to fifteen Vivien Leigh was educated in English covenant schools, where she showed a great aptitude for the performing arts. Her later education was completed in European finishing schools where she befriended schoolmate, Maureen O’Sullivan.  She once told O’Sullivan that she “was going to be famous”.  And famous she became!!!  In the classic films “Streetcar Named Desire”(1951),
“Gone With The Wind”(1939) and “That Hamilton Woman”(1941).  It was in that film she wore the beautiful Stately Earring jewelry while appearing with husband to be, Laurence Olivier.
